Hi all, I've been looking for this album (not the folder) for some time. Any advice on where to search? I seem to be at a bit of a dead end, to put it mildly.
Dansco doesn't make them any more, so they are becoming hard to find. You are probably going to end up paying a bit of money if you find one. I'd check eBay - I've seen some Dansco world albums there, but they usually sell fast, so keep checking.
I do own a copy of it. My question is do you really want to attempt to complete it? There are some coins in the albums that are just pricy and unfortunately a couple that are in the range of four figures... And I'm in that situation. Here is my digital version since the original album needed an update https://issuu.com/gxseries/docs/hong_kong_type_album_1863_present
Cool album! (The virtual as well as the actual. Nice work!) PS- I do think the aftermarket prices on rare Danscos are truly insane sometimes. One is best creating one's own (either virtually, like @gxseries has done, or in actuality, with pocket pages, or both.)
I've been checking Ebay for months now, to no avail. I think I saw one for sale two years ago; still kicking myself now for not jumping at the opportunity!
It does come up every two three years. There was one sold recently but it's not the supreme edition. The last supreme edition asking price was somewhat absurd at 200+ dollars. My best advice is to persevere. I believe it took me me more than five years before I got mine. Even so, it wasn't in the best condition. I missed getting the continental edition which is red on color. The rarest out of all.
Yep. What used to be easy pickings of nicer-grade World coins ten, fifteen, twenty years ago has now evolved to a waiting game for many of these coins... and it means that we have to save up more money while we wait, because prices are also higher.
I guess it comes down to supply and demand. The demand is definitely there but supply has long dried up since mid 1960s. From what I've seen, the expectation is that collectors aren't willing to pay more than 50 but maybe up to 100 dollars max. Some of the albums have been going over 200+, showing the scarcity and strong demand for them. I have been procrastinating but have not been able to find a manufacturer. Its much easier to design an album compared to 50 years ago. Maybe I'll see a made in China counterfeit / replica album appearing in the market... To be honest 5 years isn't that painfully long. There are a couple of coins in my collection that I had in my want list and it took me close to a decade.
