Why does Abe have acne?

    It's a copper plating issue.. Many tiny plating bubbles.

    I know just had to post it ok I have a 2003 Lincoln cent that looks to have a WAM but the back of the coin is in rough shape how can I try to clean this without harsh cleaning

    Zinc pennies will rot if exposed to high humidity. Yours looks like the zinc inside has been exposed somehow to environmental moisture and the zinc is reacting in a corrosive manner beneath the thin copper plating.
