The coin arrived today. As is my routine I took a photo before placing it in my Abafil case. I believe the coin look much better than in the auction photo. The auction photo made it look dirty. It is not. It is however nicely toned with many details apparent. The look of the coin was almost enough for me not to buy it. However, I decided to buy it anyway and I am glad I did. Just look at that portrait of Galba! Auction photo My new photo
Wow! What a difference! Is it possible that the coin was cleaned after the photo was taken, but before you received it? Nice portrait!
@IdesOfMarch01 I do not think it was cleaned. My photo is a little lighter than the coin in person. However, the coin is definitely not as dark as the first photo. For example, see the 2 photos of a Gaius below. The first one is the photo from FAC and the second is my own photo. A photo can make a big difference! The actual coin looks much more like the second photo than the first.
Cool, high relief portrait! The auction photo detracts a lot from the coin. Maybe it kept some bidders away, which is not the worst thing. John
something kept the bidders away as I bought it as an unsold lot. The curious thing is coin archives say it sold for 800.00 plus fees. I did not pay that much for the coin. Perhaps someone bid 800.00 and then backed out?
