One of my grandfathers was killed at the BATTLE OF PUEBLA during the MEXICAN AMERICAN WAR. That doesn't make me hate Mexicans since we had invaded THEIR country. I'm pretty sure any comment on modern Mexicans would be a violation of forum rules and unwarranted anyway.

I am confused: The Battle of Puebla took place on 5 May 1862, near Puebla City during the Second French intervention in Mexico. The US was fighting the Civil War at this time and was not fighting Mexico... Personally, I love Mexico. Have done a LOT of business there and they are great people. @Sallent was speaking about my modern coin:
Yes, and I never said Mexicans hate Americans or vice versa. I am confused. Maybe he misread my post?
More than one battle fought at Puebla. The Mexican -American War was fought in the 1840s and we won. The Mexican - French War was fought in the 1860s and Mexico won.
I didn't misunderstand what you said. I said I don't hate them even though they killed one of my grandfathers. I said that so that I wouldn't have to answer ten posts accusing me of hating Mexicans.
In 2017 these three coins (and a few others) came to me from fellow CoinTalkers. I really hope I haven't missed any! If I have, I'm so sorry. Looking at these pictures makes me super excited for the day I can give back!! Erin
It's nice to see some of the old coins I had on here. Few I miss, but I am glad they went to some wonderful people. I've had not 1 bad experience in my years buying from fellow members on CT. I've had the USPS have packages go missing or take much longer than they should have, but nothing I can do about that. I also have gotten some wonderful deals on here I otherwise may not have gotten elsewhere. Plus the greatest reason is I bought my first ancient on here from a former member and now it's a drug that can't be kicked.
I find that claim spurious, If your grandfather was killed at the battle of Puebla in the Mexican American war, 1847, Your mother/father must've been born before 1847, meaning your father/mother would've been at least 104 when you were born in either 1952 or 1953 (accounting your age of 65.)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he meant his great-grandfather or great-great grandfather. Either way I don't see why he would hold a grudge over the death of an ancestor so far removed he would not have met them anyway, and whom the killer would have been dead by the time they were born. Not like his great-grandfather was a nice guy, probably wasn't given that he helped invade Mexico to steal half it's lands, but we all have messed up relatives in the past, so no sense feeling guilty over ancestors we have no control over. I, for example, don't have to look far to find one such loathsome relative. My great great-grandfather was a plantation slave owner in Cuba, an odious little monster whom worked hundreds of slaves to death in his sugar mills. Not a nice guy, but he died long before I was born, and I certainly won't beat myself over the actions of others I had no control over. I can only control what I do with my own life.
Before there are difficulties, lets cease with this latest line of exchanges. Keep it ancient history and coins or I will send the "is this a double die and how much is it worth?" crowd over here! Jim
Perhaps you don't consider anyone more than two generations back a grandfather? I do. No one would care to read a long string of greats before the word grandfather. I could also have you doubt my word if I mentioned who his wife was related to so why bother. If you seriously want to read a long list of begats I can oblige. I could also mail you a Xerox copy of my chart if you care to contact me with a mailing address. All of that would detract from this thread and should be done privately. Although I occasionally misremember things I never make spurious claims or issue spurious currency either for that matter.
@desertgem I was typing while you were posting sir. I'm willing to take this part offline or erase it totally as you please.
