I was able to acquire these two Republican examples from our friend @red_spork for a very reasonable cost. It seems many of the coins new to my collection this year have come from fellow CT members. The first one @red_spork was not happy with so he replaced it recently with a better example. I find this worn example to be very pleasing to me and it fits very well with my collection. C SERVILIUS M.F. ROMAN REPUBLIC; GENS SERVILIAAR Denarius OBVERSE: Winged, helmeted head of Roma right, surmounted by head of an eagle, Lituus star under chin, ROMA below; wreath and monogram behind head REVERSE: the Dioscuri galloping in opposite directions, C SERVEILI M F in ex. Struck at Rome 136 BC 3.86g, 21.2mm Cr 239/1; Syd 525; RSC Servilia I ex. J. Montgomery Collection; ex. Alfred de la Fe The second coin is a quite nice example of a serrated Republican. The toning is very nice as well. A "Stannard scoop" al marco adjustment mark on the reverse that intersects the horse and ends on victory Ti CLAUDIUS Ti F Ap NERO; GENS CLAUDIA AR Serrate Denarius OBVERSE: Bust of Diana r., draped, bow & quiver over shoulder, SC before REVERSE: TI·CLAVD·TI·F / AP·N, Victory driving galloping biga right, holding wreath, reins, and palm frond; CXXVIIII below Struck at Rome 79 BC 3.91g, 18.3mm Cr 383/1; Syd 770; RSC Claudia 5 ex. J. Montgomery Collection This next coin I traded straight up with a different CTer. It may be rough, but the trade was very satisfactory. I will no ID the forum member, as I have not asked permission to do so. THESSALY, LARISSA A19 OBVERSE: Head of nymph Larissa facing three-quarters left REVERSE: ΛAΡI-Σ-Σ-[AIΩN], bridled horse trotting right, E above, grain ear left below Struck at Larissa 400-344 BC 6.75g, 19mm BMC 81; Rogers 273 And the last I purchased from one of our clan that does his own metal detecting. Again, the price was right. M. CAECILIUS Q.f. Q.n. METELLUS AR DENARIUS OBVERSE: Helmeted head of Roma right, ROMA behind, star below chin REVERSE: M•METELLVS•Q•F•, legend around Macedonian shield on which there is an elephant's head, all within laurel wreath Rome, 127 BC 3.6g, 17mm Cr263/1a; Syd 480; Caecilia 29 Of course, post any coin you feel appropriate to this thread, but I'm also curious about other coins purchased from fellow CTers. Thanks for looking
Nice additions, I like the top republic best. I've gotten many world coins from H8_modern and done a few trades with others here.
Nice pick-ups! I especially like the elephant head on the shield of your coin. My elephant has a minor ding that unfortunately cuts the elephant's head in two pieces.
It seems I don't do enough PMing to arrange such trades. Definitely adds value to the coin to know it came from a fellow CoinTalker! Coincidentally, I picked up a stannard scoop example of the T. Claudius Nero recently as well: If she doesn't already, it seems that @TIF must get one of these. Her Coin Talk handle is very prominent at 4:30 on the reverse!
Very nice examples @rrdenarius. According to the finder of this coin, he detected the coin about 10cm under a tree root. Interesting eh? @Severus Alexander: I hadn't even noticed, but you are correct. "TIF" is plain as day. @TIF I think you need one of these for sure.
Those all fit nicely with your collection. I'd love to have a metal detectorist-found coin, especially if the detectorist was a CT member! I have a few coins from fellow CTers (exchanged for modern money, not for other ancient coins), mostly acquired via JA's auctions. ex @JBGood (haven't seen him around much lately-- are you out there, JBG?) Another coin added to the list!
Nice coins @TIF. Yes, I have other coins from fellowed forum members as well, i.e., @dougsmit, @John Anthony, @Mat, and I find knowing the seller is much more satisfying.

Well I almost exclusively buy ancients from John Anthony. I also have bought from Warren Etsy http://augustuscoins.com/index.html and I highly recommend both dealers. I have coins in my collection that were previously forum member's coins only because John sold them. I have never traded an ancient coin. Here's a coin from Steve from the Secret Saturnallia: Faustina the Younger, Rome, AD 128-175 AE, 31mm, 23.72g; Rome mint Obv: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA; draped bust right wearing circlet of pearls Rev: IVNONI REGINAE S-C; Juno, veiled, standing left, holding patera & scepter; peacock standing left at feet, head reverted Here's one John picked up for me with my collection in mind and I love it: Thrace, Mesembria. This last year I acquired 4 or 5 coins from @Mat , the top two favorites being Gordian III and Otho My favorite from a member in this forum is still this baby from @red_spork And the best type of coin is a gift. This generous gift was courtesy of @Smojo And this other magnificent Philip was courtesy of @Cucumbor
I've been fortunate to obtain coins from a couple of different members and all of them have a special place in my collection. One that is really close to my heart and has inspired a bit of a sub collection for me is this Follis from @jamesicus Write up here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/di...rliest-post-reform-coins-from-lugdunum.311422
As, hopefully you all can tell, I am a huge ATG (Alexander iii) fan boy. And one of my favorite new (weeellll slightly used) ancient coins from a CT buddy is the son of one of his very best generals. And my 1st coin of his... Demetrios Poliorketes Æ15. Amphipolis, circa 294- 288 BC. Macedonian shield with monogram in boss / BA- Macedonian helmet, bunch of grapes in left field. Newell, Demetrius 130. 4.24g, 17mm, 10h.
I have several coins from CT members, but not many I've purchased directly from that member. I have picked up several from @Mat Here are a couple... @TIF made a cool "dude puking" graphic for the last one I can't find..LOL! As TIF mentioned, I've also noticed @JBGood hasn't been around, some others as well. What about @Mikey Zee ? Hope you guys are well!
