I found this the other day in a collection of old cents. It looks like the "2" in the date is what I termed "fancy". Is this something done at the mint or post-mint damage? Either way, it looks very interesting! I thought it worth sharing with this crowd...
It looks like a post mint strike to the coin pushed the bottom of the coin upward. Interesting but post mint. Richard
Kinda hard for post mint damage to create raised metal like that. I'd have to guess a die chip in just the right place or perhaps a die gouge.

I think you will find that the entire horizintal on the bottom of the 2 (except the piece that looks like it is hanging down) has been moved upward from a strike of some sort creating the appearance that there is a piece hanging down.
