Why do you think this coin is a different color? It is also the same color on the side of the coin. It weighs 4.90

I'm no expert on nickels but in my opinion that nickel appears to be environmental damage.JMO

Yes to Environmental Damage which is a nice way of saying it's dirty.

I once burned a coin, and it looked just like that. It turned it black. Maybe black 'toned'?

It has no dirt on it. I still think it could be a incorrectly mixed alloy nickel.

Well you have to remember we can only go off of your pics a coin in hand is always better.

With that being said it doesn't have to have dirt on it now to be environmental damage. JMO

It's a metal detecting find. It's been in the ground. I have found many like it.

It had lots of dirt on top of it for quite a long time.
