Rev.: EDWd Schulze's Restaurant 24 Williams Street Obv.: 26 & 28 Exchange Place The dies are by George Glaubtecht. The business is located in New York City, NY and reverse die number 30326 was used. On the reverse a single 6-point star is below the street. This is VF-XF with an R-1 rarity rating, meaning it's common. The listing number is: NY-630-B0-2A and is in the Guide Book of Civil War Tokens by Q. David Bowers. I normally would not spend my hard earned money on a common token like this but the price was low and I like the 2 errors. There is a rim clip at 6:00 and a cud is on the reverse at 10:00 to 11:00. A great piece of history and so I had to have it. Please don't complain the poor photos but I'm on Amtrak returning home after attending my wife's youngest sons high school graduation in Baton Rouge Louisiana. He graduated with the highest honors possible.
Learned something new again today, didn't realize they actually grade tokens. Is it just tokens with historical significance? Do they grade transit tokens like paddyman's collections? This is quite nice btw. Thanks for sharing! Oh and congrats to the kiddo!
Very cool, especially with those errors. Good indication of just how DIY these types of tokens were!!!
Not sure what tokens are graded and not but tokens that are used in trade are. Hard times and civil war tokens were used in trade as coinage was in short supply.
I believe I would have had to take this one home too. I absolutely adore pieces that scream US history. And this one truly does. Nice nice coin.
