I hesitate to comment based on an image. That said, I'm on the conservative side and base don the odds, would be surprised if I graded it MS69 in-hand.
Beautiful coin DJ!!! That one makes all of us envious! It doesnt matter to me what the holder says, thats a gorgeous coin.
Oh, no need to be so hesitant Mark. Folks around here never do any worse than chew off arms and legs for comments they disagree with. If it gets any worse than that - a mod will step in and calm things down. Or at least stop the bleeding Personally, I agree - I think the graders got a bit excited that day.
ANA Standards say: MS-68, Upon 1st glance, MS-68 will appear to be PERFECT under 10X magnification, with the exception of A nearly imperceptible scratch, nick or flaw which appears in a non sensitive area. I will not need to do MS-69, it goes on to say that MS-67 is a wondor coin, blah blah , which I believe this is more like it.
Howdy, Thanks for the post - what a glorious coin. Grade? Gee, I haven't a clue - I'm probably the least qualifed on this board. But, here's a secret - I don't care whether it's a 69 or 67 or 65 - it's a beautiful coin and the eye appeal goes off the chart. So, you folks gonna pitch in and buy it for me for Christmas? rono
Not sure if it is the Eliasberg coin, but it looks familiar and I want to say that Superior auctioned this coin off in the early 1990s. I don't have a reference for it, but it is just a gut feeling about that. As for if they had graded it MS67, I'd have said they got the grade correct!
It's a wonderful coin. I don't have good grading skills, but I have a couple of MS69 modern commems that look a tiny bit better by comparison. This probably isn't important because everything from 67 to 69 looks pretty perfect to me, and I'm not sure I believe in 70s.
