Hello I was hoping for some help in identifying these two token/medals I have searched and searched and can’t find anything thanking you
The first has East Asian writing (Chinese?) The second token has writing in Arabic and looks like an Indian or Malay religious/pilgrimage token. I do not recognize the scenes from either Brotman's book on temple tokens nor Cribb's book on magic coins. (But I haven't opened either book in a few years).
Thank you I still can’t find any info at all. Maybe they aren’t meant to be found. Thank you again for the info I really appreciate it
For the first one, I recognize d two chinese characters "財” “運” , separately, they mean "fortune" and "luck". It can also means "luck for wealth" when put together. The one on the top looks like "求"(begging) . My guess is, it could be a Yansheng Coin (Ancient Chinese Gave to children in new year for blessing). But it's not common to write "begging for luck of wealth). So other possible explanation is the coin used in some kind of Taoism ritual. It would also explain why the words at the front doesn't looks like any chinese words but like some kind of Taoism spells.
The second medal down shows 2 sitting men facing each other. Note how they're raising hands in a typically religious gesture or ritual. Fortunately the reverse exhibits the name Mohamed or Mohammad in Arabic. So you have a very original Islamic medal, possibly related to the Sufi sect or Movement which erupted in the second century after Hegira AH. or VII and eighth century AD. Based on mystic meditation, Sufism expanded slowly and followers were often persecuted because they were accused of not respecting the basic formalities of Islam. They were also impressed by Hinduism and Christianity. Hope I'm somewhat right. Notice that the 2 facing men are nearly half naked.
Wow thank you so much for the information that is awesome you guys are amazing. Anyone have a rough value? Or know where or who to contact to sell?
