Hi guys I was looking through some wheat penny's to my surprise there was 2 1919 penny's in pretty good shape no mint marks though pretty good find ..also have a couple mercury dimes now here's the question about it while looking closely with a magnified glass the 5 on the date was different nothing like a normal 5 would be posted earlier but got different answers guessing posted in wrong category but any way the 5 looks like it has a tail struck on the bottom and go's downward looking at it pretty sure it's minted that way because it's connected to the 5 with same thicknesses and ware. Looked at lots of pics of the same dime and all have a normal 5 is this some kind of error please no rude comment I'm kinda new to collecting silver coins here's a pic of it it blurred but the best I have at the moment thanks again guy's
I am thinking that the lack of replies ( certainly mine) towards the coin is that the photo is so indistinct, it is impossible to tell what has happened. The chance it is worth something special is extremely, as most circulated coins have accumulated a lot of dings and damage and the metal is so soft. If you can come up with a better photo, please post. Jim
I will tell you this, members might not be able to render an accurate opinion on your coin without a better pic
Ok guys my brothers phone has a much better camera than mine will definitely get better one when he gets here thanks for the answer so far normally don't put much effort in researching old coins but they are easy to tell their just common this one is baffling just never seen anything like it before
As stated better pictures would be needed to say for sure, most likely damage or a small die chip. I am sure with better photos you will get an answer.
Hmmm, I wonder if all those uglies I turned in are now starting to show up. There was every date just about from 1910 on up, about 300 of them.
