I got this medal (or token made into a medal) 2 years ago and have been trying to find out more info on it ever since. I love the saying on the reverse and I am sure it was the general feeling for the day. Take a look and let me know what you think. it is 3.2 cm or 1 1/4 inches. Thanks

I've looked online and even in places like e-bay, token books, so-called dollar books but still have yet to add any more detail to the item. Any detail would help.

I can't provide any information specific to your token, but I have some general information. In Alpert and Elman's "Tokens and Medals" Guide (1992), this would fit best in their chapter 35 section on National, Regional, and Local Event tokens. I do not think that this would be a regional event token, as typically there would be several states involved. But, for a frame of reference, here are possible catagories:

Section B.1.a, it lists pre-1910 regional event tokens as valued between $3-6. Remember, catalog is from 1992.

Section C.2.a, local events (fairs and festivals), pre-1910 are listed at $2-4.

Section C.6.a, Holiday and special Day Celebrations. This is where I would say your token fits best. Pre-1910 tokens are valued at $2-4

    Section C.7.a, Anniversaries (300th), pre-1910 valued at $1-5.

Section D. Specific events, also a reasonably good fit for your token. A number of events were listed, but not your token. values ranged from $1-25.

All of the above catagories, as part of the description, included a requirement of having a specific date.

The saying on the reverse is somewhat common, and was used on a number of tokens, I believe I have two with that saying. Sorry I could not be of more assistance.

thanks for the info tokenman. I know little about tokens...I just figured that since it was from a well known event that there would be more informaion out there. Maybe I'll send it to coin world or Coins and see if they know anything else about it.:headbang:
