1961P Nickel Full Steps??

Discussion in 'US Coins Forum' started by Michael Bertono, May 14, 2018.

  1. Hi cointalk community i found a 1961p nickel in a mint set i had laying around. Just wondering if it would be considered full steps and if so if its valuable like the 1961d full step variety. Thanks for the help

I believe what you have is a proof set vs a mint set.

This would be a very high dollar coin in full steps if it is in fact a business strike which I believe it to not be.

Yes, that's a proof coin. Notice that there are no red or blue stripes on the cello wrapping.
Don't feel bad, I've made the same mistake.

What is the real color of that nickel? Is it yellowish-greenish? That is a frequent tone for 1961, just as bluish nickels are fairly common in 1962 proof sets.

That is a proof nickel. Not a business strike.

  8. Yeah its got a yellow tone to it. The reverse actually has a much deeper yellow tone then the obverse has. The pics of the reverse just were done with poor lighting.

IMHO the bottom step does not appear to be a full step. Sorry!
