What would you consider the grade on it to be ?

It could have been cleaned.
There looks to have been a little action above the "In God We Trust".

I agree, that does look a little strange.

 

It appears that the white balance is off on the images, distorting our view of the coin, but that it is AU.

 

I say it looks cleaned the U M in unum looks like gunk around them and some of the stars by her chin look to have some gunk also, unless it's shadows from the light.
