I've been lurking for awhile, so I guess I'll now speak up...

A friend at work and I were talking about collecting $1 FRNs and what the different letters (FRB) numbers mean (he was new to collecting). I also mentioned star notes and they can be rare to find in circulation. For kicks, he opens his wallet and starts going through his ones. Wouldn't you know that he finds a star note right then! Now, I've never found one in circulation, so I was eager to buy it from him. But noooo... from our previous conversation, he knew he should keep it.

    Drats! :headbang:

Lol, thats too much. But they are out there, Ive found my fair share. Ive found all denominations except for $5. Ive found quite a few $100s, but never could afford to keep any. Anyhow, I was telling my buddy about star notes the other day because he was showing me all the old bills hes found in circulation. He looked through his wallet, didnt find any, so I looked in my wallet, I had a $20 star. So I sold it to him for face value.

i was watching a show and they where talking about star notes and said the reason a stear note is issued is because the bill was messed up in some way so they destroy it and issue a star note in its place

Acer0001, I have found several * notes in circ. 38. 37 of them have been found in this year. They are in circ. imo looking for them in normal everyday transactions is the hardest way to find them, now this would work if you like stalking your prey (close enough to see but not shoot) There are a few of us here in CT that search straps of notes, of course I as well as others are looking for more than just * notes.

    List of * notes
    28-$1.00
    1-$2.00
    2-$5.00
    5-$10.00 one of these being a low # 00003331
    1-$20.00
    1-$100.00
Still looking for the $50.00 note.

Best of luck in your searching,
    John

Wow, man, that's impressive! I would have held onto those $1000 and $500 star notes, those are hard to find in circ. :p ;) :D

And Acer, don't worry man, you'll find your fair share of star notes one day, it's like a chain reaction, once you find one, you'll have them coming out of your ears. ;) :D

Thanks, all. I've been collecting world notes for some time, but the articles in the recent Paper Money magazine that I happened to browse upon in the bookstore kinda piqued my interest. I picked up some sliver certs and older bills, but have been really searching my change recently. I think I'll pick up a few banded sets of 1s and see what I get. :D

it always seems that other people that are not collectors have nice bills. occasionaly my mom and dad let me go through their money and i find old and interesting stuff all the time. the people at school always have cool serial numbers and block letters, but i don't have any money on me to trade. what is up with non collectors finding good stuff right off the bat! :desk:same with coins. i have to wait months to find something good and the people that don't collect get good stuff ALL the time. i think we are looking too hard. :p
