Congrats Jon! Only a few more to go.... FWIW, I'm down to 2: 09-S VDB 22 no D All but 5 (31-s, 24-d, 14-d and the 2 above) were collected out of pocket change. I started searching in the late 70s...Mike
from an old collector Just a bit of advice. Save up for the 09s,09svdb,14d and the 22. The prices on those are going straight throught the roof. In 2009, they will be priced out of reach for most novice collectors. Please believe me, the new collectors in the cent PLEASE save for these keys. Just trying to help! FYI, I bought my 1914d in XF 4 years ago from a retired shop owner for $120, now that exact coin is worth over $500.
I completed my set last year with a few of the teens that I needed. While I wouldn't mind upgrading some of the coins my key dates are about as high as I can afford them... 1909-S F 1909-S VDB VF 1914-D F 1931-S MS63/4...I can't remembre but its graded by NGC. The rest of the coins are "normal" grade, and mostly pulled out of mixed bags of wheats---I guess they could stand some help!! Speedy
most all my wheats have been pulled from bags that i bought however i have purchased a few individual coins i got the 22-d for 17 dollars in vf-etched whatever that means it kinda has a sintered look but allthe detail is still there and i had to buy the 59, 62 and 63-p in proof but i got those for 1.50 each
The one I'm missing is the 22, and get this, 2000-2007. But for me, I have only gotten the most common of wheats searching rolls and pocket change, no good ones for me at face value I guess
i have all the new ones that i found searching rolls my 1998-p someone scratched off liberty so i am still on the lookout for that one but that one took me the longest of the newer ones i got a few 1909-p that i found buying bags and stuff at the coin shops and ebay
I just bought a 1931-s in XF, so I still need a 1909-S VDB; 1914-D; and a 1909-S. I do have a 1922 "no D" and a 1955 "poorman" double die to fill that hole. My set includes proof only issues since 1975, and most proofs since 1965. I had been upgrading some of my older G and VG to XF or better - but now I am saving $ to buy those missing keys. I agree with the other poster that the time to buy these keys is now before they become unaffordable. I have also been working on second and third sets. my second has about 20 holes and the third has more.
I have been hoarding 1909's and 1909 vdb's for two years now in hopes that the prices will increase with the 2009 issues, and the only coin I need is the 22 plain, and my dealer is on the lookout for me. Hopefully when I get home, it'll be waiting for me to pick up.
o i love the concept of complete sets. i only nee done coin for my high grade type collection. anyone know where i can get good quality flying cents
i got a funny story for ya before i got my loupe i was putting wheats in the book and i couldnt find a 1920-d so i had another 1920 so i stuck it in the hole anyway when i got my loupe i was going through and checking em to make sure they were alright and i pulled the 1920 out and looked at it and it was a 1920-d just the d was really faint so i kinda got lucky there :thumb:
