Can you show a full image of the obverse? I am trying to see the Blakesly Effect. If it were a genuine clip I think you would be able to see at least a bit of one.
Can you post a picture of the whole obverse? I cannot really see a "Blakesley effect going on there. Here is a description as to what that is and what you need to be on the look out for!http://dniewcollectors.blogspot.com/2012/04/blakesley-effect-on-clip-error-coins.html
Hmm, that’s a tough one. It looks to me like someone purposely cut the nickel like that to mimic a clipped planchet error. I don’t believe it’s an actual clipped planchet because the coin does not exhibit the blakesley effect. On an actual clipped planchet coin, the rim opposite the clip would be weakly struck. There are no signs of this on your nickel. Here’s a clipped planchet coin that I own for comparison. The blakesley effect is visible directly opposite the clip.
The Blakesley effect is not a universal indicator of a clipped coin. It seems on coins where the clip includes other elements on the edge, like text, the Blakesley effect is minimal or nonexistent. The Blakesley effect is caused by metal being unevenly forced up into the die, so edge elements can alter its appearance by replacing the missing rim. The reverse pics indicate clipped planchet. I am 75% certain on this nickel that it is a clip on based on the provided photos and handling other errors. (Caveat: I reserve the right to update my opinion based on additional photos)
