Zinc rot. Your coin is damaged.

 

Cents minted after mid 1982 are all Copper Plated Zinc. They suffer from different kinds of plating issues. You have PMD - Post Mint Damage

 

Is it worth keeping or should I throw in the penny jar

 

worth 1 cent.. spend it.
