I picked up a few more FH, but I thought it might be fun if you could guess why I got each (other than just saying Im crazy). The first should be easy. This one may or may not be easy.
My guess: 1.) The horseman on his backside is a rarer type than the reaching or clutching horseman. 2.) This one seems to have a shield design. I know you’ve been keeping an eye out for those lately! Nice coins! I recently picked up one myself I’ll post when I have it!
On the top one, the horseman is sitting and playing with a beach ball. On the lower one, the soldier is somehow managing to hold on to his shield even though he has the handle facing away from his body. Perhaps it's bolted to his cuirass? Or perhaps I need a better monitor?
"More 'n' more I been thinkin' 'bout ... " Not coin-related, I know, but your thread gave me an earworm!
The horse on the first coin has a very prominent rear end. I mistook it as a globe or something at first.
The first one has Constans on obverse. The second seems to have a strange face of the Fallen Horseman who is being speared in his shoulder.
Nice coins Randy, here are a couple from my trays. Barbarous minim Nice obverse, Weight 0.95g, size 13 x 11mm Official issue from Constantinople Struck on poorly prepared flan, with a tong pinch. Weight 4.85g Size 24 x 21mm
Haha, some good answers The first one does have a scarcer rev. but I got it mostly because it's Constans and yes the 2nd I got because of the shield design.
One more for you Randy. This one has a 180* double strike Reverse, slight doubling on the Obverse. Constantius ii, Thessalonica. Size 21mm, Weight 4.38g.
I chose to post mine because it is from the same mint but a different issue and officina to the OP. It is a reaching type as on the OP but wears a Phrygian helmet and is beardless unlike the OP which is bare headed and bearded. They do however have very similar shield designs. This one is from the same issue as the OP but different officina and no shield design. This one is different officinabut same issue as my first coin. This one bare headed and bearded. I have lots of others and also an AE3 barb copying Cyzicus (SMK in exe)
