Possible 1970 cent struck on a clad dime planchet

    Is this a 1970 cent struck on a clad dime planchet? It is the same diameter as a dime.

    Looks to me to have been ground or polished down as evidenced by what looks like plier marks to hold it in place while doing so. Why is anyone's guess and would be pure speculation.

    Nope. It's definitely struck on a copper cent planchet.
    It just got mangled after leaving the mint.

    If the exact same diameter as a dime and slightly thinned, it could have been used to fool old vending machines. Like Tommy said though, this is mostly speculation and not something that can be proved beyond a doubt.

    If it was struck on a Clad Dime Planchet it would have a clad layer on both sides..
    Think about it o_O
