I know this is right on the heels of my last post, but I had to share. Went to the bank today to pick up my dimes. Low and behold, they didn't have them. so I decided to scoop up ALL their two's. They had $386. I believe most of these came from the same customer as almost all of them were marked with the so called counterfeit detection pen. I know I've seen the marks fade completely in the past and here's hoping they do again. The first pic are three red seals that were in the pile (2 - 1953A and 1 - 1953B). These have been around the block abit, but they will have a nice home in my collection from now on. The second pic is of two consecutively numbered 1976 star notes in AU to CU condition. The corners are ever so slightly rounded and there is evidence that they were folded down the middle at one point. The evidence is so faint that it doesn't even show up on the scan. The third pic is of a 1976 $2 that was post marked on 04/13/1976. It was carelessly handled at one point, but I figured it was worth hanging onto. I also kept about $80 worth of AU to CU 1976 notes. There were many that were consecutively numbered (most about 2-3 notes, but one group of 5 notes). Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed.
real nice indeed :thumb: ya know, i went to the bank today (with it being a snow day and all, the critters were not in school) so it was the first tim in months. Anyhoot, i talked to the cashier about if their bank automaticaly removes older notes to be returned to the reserve? she had no idea what i was talking about. i am not sure if she just didnt know, or had no clue what i was talking about. When my daughter is out of school, and i get to go back reguraly, i will have to ask a new teller - i need to fidn them old note stashes at these banks - like Gatzdon does :d
You may find this hard to believe, but some banks (5/3 Bank to name one) don't do america the favor of separating mutilated bills. The just hide them in a strap and send them back out to some unsuspecting customer. About 80% or more of the bills you would get from 5/3 Bank would be deemed unfit by the FRB. What you need is a good bank that does perform this service for the economy, then you need to go in when there are ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMERS WAITING BEHIND YOU (This is very, very important), then you need to get on the teller's good side, then you can ask to go through their mutilated pile. Some tellers may do it in their spare time and set them aside for you, but those are very few.
i wouldnt think any teller at any bank would allow a customer who walked in off the street to 'look' through their money, mutilated or not. I know Pheonix21 is allowed to at one of his banks - amazes me!!! i would be apprehensive to even ask. BUT the draw is too cool. Once i get back to going to the bank on a more regular basis, i mgiht ask ... whats the worst they can tell me right?
I didn't ask, they offered and insisted. I've found like over 30 star notes just looking there, till I just turned them back into circulation. I also found those nice 50s and 100s there too. But, they insisted one time, and it's to now if there is no line, I can just walk in and look. Phoenix
