I like to look at ones like the park quarters that have been colorized. It's interesting to see how someone interprets how it would look in color.

But there's no sense in actually buying them that way. Just look at the pictures of them.

If you're collection is based only in buying things that will potentially increase in value, I get it. But if you like the way painted coins look, why not buy them? Any collection should be something that you enjoy, because you never know what tomorrow can bring. If the price of silver drops to a $0.10, would you still enjoy your collection of old walking liberty halves? Sure, because they're a part of history, and a beautiful coin as well.

I get it, collecting colorized coins for an investment is probably not the best idea. But they can still be fun. I think someone mentioned the Royal Canadian Mint; their colorized maple leaf coin in the 2012 (also for 2013) annual set looks really cool to me.

If that happened, I'd be spending most of them. A 90% half would be worth 4 cents melt if silver was 10 cents/ozt.

I almost bought a gilded panda coin. Thanks to this topic, I learned a lot about colorized coins. Buy them for fun, but stick to the original for investment.
