Saw Dan today at the Denver Coin Expo. He had this Beauty sitting in his case.

Thanks I just ordered an OWL....I must say they are a hard habit to break.
Don't get me wrong I do like all the new cent items, he has done a fantastic job with those.

But the half cent portrait is different from that. Dan used the large cent head rather than a true half cent design. Also, he used the lettering style of the large cent on the reverse.

 

This is true. But if the US Mint had actually produced a half cent in 1858 there is no technical reason that it couldn't have had the (superior) large cent Braided Hair head that year (or any other year).

Also, taking a larger design and reducing it in size helps the apparent sharpness of the image.

 

Superior in your opinion. But honest question, did you attempt or consider a true-to-form braided hair half cent design?

 

And that makes it "superior"

Been down since May 8 due to back surgery but did manage to get up long enough to order some of Dan's new stuff. Also got a submission at ANACS.

I read every day just don't post much bc it hurts to sit for more than 10 minutes at a time. Time to lie down...........

I couldn't pass it up, it was the first coin I saw in his case, I was so excited to get the piece, that I left my eye piece at his table. I have so much thanks to the nice Lady that found me and gave it back! Thank you.
