i have several 1982 d's that weigh 3.1. this one weighs 3.0 and the d is closer to date than the rest. could this be the holy grail 1982 small date nickel mix penny?

What do you mean by a nickel mix penny? I don't think there is any such thing. I believe you have a large date copper cent.

That's a normal 3.1 copper cent it's a large date not small, here's something that helped me when I started. IMO

hi and thankyou for advice, however copper 1982d weighs 3.1 gram. 1982 was the year our government decided copper was too expensive and minted copper plated (im thinking) nickel pennies. that coin is 3 grams . nevertheless the d looks stamped twice n i pondered what it is worth?

There are seven different varieties for the 1982 yours is not the rare one, they didn't make a nickel plated cent. JMO

Beginning of 1982 the US Mint was still creating Copper Cents. They switched to Copper Plated Zinc Planchets later on in 1982.

You have to remember there's a+/-.13 if memory serves me. You have a better chance of winning the powerball then finding 1982 d small date. IMO
