Hello, I am new to this forum. But i had a coin for a really long time and i was wondering what the worth of it is. This coin is a 1970-d 5 cent. But all i could find that they are made out of nickel, mine is not magnetic so its not nickel. The coin is 5 gram. See the pictures(Imgur Album.)
5 cents. Take any other nickel and see it doesn't stick to a magnet. Most modern coins are only worth face value. Unless they are in exceptional condition, or there's an error, or they are rare.
That's US coin. In other countries an approximate coin could be nickel clad steel core. Perhaps that is the cause of confusion? Welcome ! Jim
The 1955-1981 Canadian Nickels are made of .999 nickel and they stick to a magnet. Starting in 1982 and until 1999 they changed to the same composition as our nickels (Non-magnetic). US Nickels are not magnetic due to the metallic composition of 75% copper and 25% nickel.
Pure nickel is magnetic, when it's alloyed with other metals and the percentage of the other metals exceeds roughly 11% it loses its magnetic properties. Since the other medals in the U. S. five cent piece comprise 75% of the alloy the coin is obviously not magnetic.
