I'm still going through a large pile of Lincolns and this one is interesting. Looks like some kind of mechanical doubling but the strike seems to be much bolder than other 1989's. I could not find much online so I figure nothing to it. Just checking with you folks before it goes back in the change jar... Thanks for looking.
die deterioration doubling, back in the jar with it... http://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling/
OMG, I believe your right furryfrog. It even shows the same Lincoln cent date as an example. The pic on the link you sent is exactly what I'm seeing even though I couldn't really capture with my pics. "The images below shows die deterioration doubling on a 1955 Lincoln (raised), Jefferson nickel (raised) and 1989 Lincoln (incuse)." Back in the pile it goes... Thanks buddy!
Oy.... That said, and back on subject, here is another link addressing the same... http://doubleddie.com/144843.html Welcome to the forum, Frank.
