Weighing 14.61 g. , this bronze coin attracted me by the reverse with a female deity surmounted by a ram, and possibly a swimming god on her feet. It could be Annona there with Delta - Epsilon across field. On the obverse, I could read Delta H MOC , then starting from the upper right KOTI(D or L) EON. I suspected Claudius but I'm not sure. Please try to guess the Emperor's name. Thank you.
Its Cotiaeum in Phrygia. Unfortunately is a known fake: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4232762
Some tips: The obverse is not an emperor but a generic representation of the people, which is why the legend begins "ΔΕΜΟC" (=Demos) The reverse is a common theme in coins of Syria and that general region. Tyche is seated on rocks, with river god swimming at her feet (partially off flan on this coin); ram leaping above. See if you can find similar coins using that information. Edited: As Ken said
Many thanks as usual. Will exchange it tomorrow for something real and valuable. Promise. I owe you all.
They're selling it on " London Ancient Coins " as a modern replica. How's that ? What value could have a fake.
Notice that it didn’t sell at the very “optimistic” opening bid of 30 GBP. If I recall, LAC recently had an auction of a huge number of fakes, sold as such. Some people like to study fakes in order to become more adept and spotting them in the market, for academic reasons, or whatever.
