I don't usually do e-bay rip-off items, but this really caught my attention. I'm not sure how to post links, so I'll do it in two different ways.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/1981-S-US-Proof...yZ139816QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    The e-bay number is : 360004317988

It's expiring in the next few minutes (2 a.m. Central Time)., so it'll be over before any of you see it.\

My point is the "Type 1 or Type 2?" in the title. And then the guy says he's been "frustrated" in determining between Type 1 and Type 2 Coins.

I'm a total IDIOT when it comes to grading coins, but any MORON can tell the difference between the Type 1 and Type 2 coins in 1981.

And look at the closing price. The guy will probably get $2-$5 more just because there's a "chance" you'll get the more rare type....

I admit fully and truthfully that this is a much smaller scam than what you other guys report on CT - but HEY - us little guys got our scams to report too!!!

Goodness, Gracious! Sometimes I just shiver and want to curl up into a little ball......

    Pocket Change,

A scam is a scam big or small.

Here's how I read the auction.

"Although I am a coin dealer I don't know anything about coins as that would take effort. It's easier to plant an idea in the buyer's head and rip said buyer off."

As one who is fond of odd denomination coins I will start using this angle to the extreme.

    Example:

I know this coin is dated 1865 but I'm not sure if it's a Two Cent Piece that retails at $15 in G4 or an 1865 Three Cent Silver that retails at $400 in G4.
I don't check these coins. I have a bin of 1865 coins in 2x2s and I close my eyes and grab one for shipping.
P.S. I have never owned an 1865 Three Cent Silver so your chances are pretty slim BUT the coin fairy could change it during shipping.

    Yeah, I'm going with that.

I found that it's important to check all the fingernail photos in an auction. I purchased some coins at market price on ebay, they turned out to be a copy. It was'nt stated in the item headline or in the item description that it was a copy(Only showed the copy COA in the last fingernail photo-which i was'nt able to enlarge at the time).
