The reason that there are ( for instance 61 bots at this moment) perusing the site , looking for information, is to sell email addresses or locations for advertisement placement. It is a business that is worrisome to members. As I said, if I am wrong in intent, I apologize. I hope you enjoy the information that is on the forum
"Now" or not, my guess is this was the reasoning, but if you'd really like to know the best option may be to message Doug. There's no harm in asking.
I removed the website name from the thread title once I saw the thread. I did so because I figured it was an oversight made by the mod who originally edited your post/thread. In other words what good would it do to remove a link to the website and yet leave the name of the website in the thread title where anyone could plainly see it - and thus access the site that way. Now you also have to understand, I didn't dig into this when I did that. In other words I didn't examine your website. Given the website name, Sell Coins Near Me, and the original post you made - well, at first glance it appears that your post/thread was indeed a violation of the forum rules. And in fact it was reported as a violation by other members - point being, the mod wasn't the only one who thought your post broke the rules. And I have to admit, I thought it did too - which as I said above is why I removed the website name in the title. All of this said, after reading this thread, re-reading the original thread, and closely examining your website, it becomes obvious to me that your website is informational in nature and service oriented. Which means posting about it does not break the rules. At least not as it stands right now. So, I'm reverting your original post back to the way it was when you posted it. I'm leaving the title as is now however because changing that back, well it looks very misleading to others given the wording and could induce them to thinking they can post about selling as well. It's an example kind of thing in other words. I am also merging this thread into your original thread, so that everything about all of this can be found in one place. A word of warning though. As I said above - as it stands right now. What I mean by that is this. Your website and posting about it in the regular forum sections is only permissible because you are offering a service - a free service. And that's important. Because if you switch things over and start charging people to use your website - then all of this goes right out the window because then it would break the rules.
I understand 100% and will continue to follow the rules. Hopefully, if anyone has feedback or ideas of quality additions to the website I would greatly appreciate it!!
I used to dabble in Internet marketing and had 6 or 7 sites at one point, although I wasn't able to put the time into needed to make any real money. But I digress. First off, wordpress is a great platform to use, it's very SEO friendly and probably part of the reason you have had good search result rankings. The exact match domain probably helps some, but google doesn't hold that in as high regards as it used to. I only took a quick look at your site as I'm on my lunch break at work and have other things I'd like to do right now, I might check it out more in depth tonight if I get a chance. For now, I'll leave you with this. First a question, are the photographs on the site yours? If they are, fine, you are good to go. If they are not yours you risk copyright infringement. Now if they were obtained through creative commons you are ok but you need to in most cases attribute the photo to the original owner. If however you just cherry picked them off the internet, you will at some point have an issue on your hands. At some point your site may become more popular, google's algorithm is very smart and some people actually check for their images online as well. This will cause at the very least your site to be shut down, and possible fines, etc etc. Some people get away with it for a long time, other's not so much. Just wanted to make you aware of the possible issues in case you're new to that sort of thing. And again, if they are your images you're fine the way you are. If you got them through creative commons use, you're also fine, but need to reference the owner of the image in a way that's compliant with the creative commons rules for that image. Good luck!
http://wilmingtoncoins.com appears in the above mentioned website under the heading of Wilmington Coin Buyer as well as the OP's profile page info - the SCNM site may not be commercial, but it seems to be steering coin sellers his way from from one of his websites to another
Thank you for the comments! Many of the photos are of coins that I currently have or had at one time. All photos are used with permission. I would not want to battle Getty Images in court!!
A final suggestion for you, change the name of your website to - Sell Your Coins Near You. Strictly my opinion but I think doing so would go a long ways towards clarifying exactly what the purpose of your website is.
Thanks for the advice. I came up with the name based on current search trends in Google. This ranked very, very high for searches. I believe it is due to the average Joe using the terms for all other searches, such as "restaurants near me", "coffee shop near me", etc. Geotracking has really changed the way we all search for things.
Could be I guess, but just about everybody here found your title, website name, misleading - and thought it was referring to something else entirely. Including me.
I didn’t find it misleading at all especially since the intital post explains the purpose. Also, the data is skewed since “about everybody here” = “about everybody here that replied” and it excludes members who read it and did not to reply. My reaction was that the OP was simply looking for feedback. It is reasonable to assume that was OP’s only purpose.
"Everybody here" was only referring to those who posted in this thread. Including, myself, those who reported it for being a rule violation, the mod who originally edited it, and others posting here. Can others read it differently ? Yes, of course. But the point I made was valid, and it was only a suggestion.
Great! I didn't think we had adequate data to prove that the majority of CT forum members found anything misleading in the OP's request for feedback. Hopefully, we are back on track now.
We are up to 16 cities now and have about 20 more in the queue. Let me know if you would like a city near you next! https://sellcoinsnearme.com/search-by-city/
