what coin is this?

    hi i found this coin and did some research on it which revealed ( incorrectly maybe) that it belongs to a sultan from zanzibar. but could someone clarify please?

    From one of the Islamic countries, dated 1299AH (11/23/1881-11/12/1882).

    One of our members who reads Arabic will probably be along in a while to specifically ID it.

    how much would it be worth? i found it in india..i guess it got here cos of the trade ties ??

    I didn't notice your reference to Zanzibar originally, but it appears you are correct.

    It is a copper 1 Pysa, KM#1 in the Standard Catalog of World Coins, from the reign of Sultan Barghash ibn Sa'id. It had a mintage of 4,640,000. In my older edition catalog it is valued at $1-1.75 in the condition of your coin. An uncirculated piece was valued at $25.

    The island of Zanzibar, off the African coast, is now part of Tanzania.
