    20180429_130412.jpg 20180429_130550.jpg Hello everyone!
How is everyone doing today? I'm new to coin talk and wanted to get some opinions from some of the lincoln cent experts on the forum. I was looking for something to do this weekend and decided to get some 1963-D BU rolls. I Had heard that it is very difficult to find anything over an MS66RD and if anyone did it would fetch a pretty nice price.

I found this beauty in one of the last rolls I hunted. Aside from a few minor specks on the obverse it looks really good. What do you think? Can it make MS67RD?

    Thanks for your input!

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Please post pics taken straight on and not at an angle.
Pics taken at an angle hide more than you realize.

At the moment until better photos ( I did enlarge) there is too many marks on both side. I would say about a 64 on a normal day at TPG, +/- 1 for a very busy day.

Indeed, but even judging from what I can see, I don't believe you're anywhere close to a 67.

Also, is it safe to assume that you're looking for a coin to submit? If so, and just in case you're unfamiliar, this isn't something for the uninitiated.

Agree with @desertgem and @BooksB4Coins . mark in the field by the forehead. Mark in the field between the chin and rim. scratches above the 1. Ding on the left most pillar on the rev. And that's what I can see with mediocre pics. Maybe you get lucky and get a 65 out of it, but I wouldn't put my hopes on it.

If you want to play the "high Grade jackpot" game, you really, really need to understand what the TPGs look for, or you're just going to lose $$

Thanks for the input booksB4coins. I wont be submitting anything anytime soon. I heard coin talk was a great resource and full of knowledgable people. I figured I would try to use it to obtain as much knowledge as I can.

Excellent and a heartfelt welcome. While this forum is far from perfect, it does offer an excellent learning opportunity and there are many knowledge and caring members willing to help. Please do stick around, don't take anything coin-related personally, and show a willingness to do your homework and you'll do just fine here. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome! I find searching a bunch of old pennies quite relaxing and fun. I have found some resources on grading. However I am having trouble finding any photograde type resource for modern lincoln cent MS60-MS70.

For the sake of comparison as far as scratches in the fields this coin is much better? Do the die scratches effect the grade of a coin in a positive or negative way? Sorry about all the questions. Incase anyone is wondering...yes I have about 500 63-Ds in front of me lol 20180429_152116.jpg 20180429_152145.jpg

If the die scratches are minor, no...but I have had at least 2 coins come back as "scratches" which they were not. Die scratches produce raised lines, coin scratches incluse lines, but it is the game played. Jim
