I got refered to this group from error world. I am a begginer and have been searching bank rolls for a few months. I just found a 1981-D nickel with what looks like an RPM but can't find an entry for this date on the CENECA web site. Hope the link to msn works ok.
Thanks for your help on this.
    Neill.

Well I made it to your pics. I had to join your group to see them. Lokks like an RPM to me, although I can't find any reference to it in any of my resources.

    Good eye ;)

    Nope. :(

That's a "members only" MSN group.

In order to see the pictures, we would have to join the group.

Some of them require that you provide your e-mail address. That can lead to you being added to an endless number of spam lists.

I doubt that your group is like that, but I'm a little cautious about joining MSN groups.

Lets try converting to a jpg and uploading it.
    Sorry about that.

From what little I have learned it definately is an RPM. Since it appears to be a first for that date you may have something quite valuable. Congratulations and thanks for posting your find on COIN TALK.

It is, of course, impossible to confirm anything from a photograph, but from what I can tell, it looks like an OMM (over mintmark).

This is just a guess, but rather than an RPM, which would be a "D" punched over another "D", it looks like a "D" punched over a "P".

Very interesting, and a very nice find.

Very interesting that you suggest it's an over mint mark. I wouldn't even have considered this. I am very inexperienced though so thats not surprising.
If you could spare the time could you outline the characteristics that suggest to you this is a OMM rather than an RPM?
Also should my actions be going forward to get this submitted for attribution and grading? I see the CONECA website has people to mail coins to for attribution and grading. It seems they use a company called ICG.
This coin since it's from circulation isn't in good shape so it might not
be worth while wrt charges for this vs. it's worth but I am pretty atteched to my find now :).
    Thanks.
    Neill.

    Hi Neill,

Your nickel does indeed appear to be an RPM. If you wouldn't mind I would like to feature the coin on the home page of my website. As well, I can point you in the right direction (or do it for you) getting your coin attributed and assigned a die number in the CONECA master listings. Please email me at j_t_wax@yahoo.com for details.

    NICE FIND!

    Neill,

I would definately take Jason's advice.

I am sure he can steer you in the right direction, especially when it comes to Jefferson nickel variety attributions.

    Good luck!

I didn't wait to be asked twice! I mailed him as soon as I saw his message. Havn't heard back yet but I see he has instructions on his website to send in coins so I may ship it off tomorrow.

I really appreciate all you guys taking the time to help me out.
    Neill.

Found the same OMM 1981-D 5c

Hi--I found this thread in a google search......I found the exact 1981-D OMM(D/P, if that's what this is, and not an RPM, D/D?), in rolls from bank yesterday...so, what is the official listing for this please?
    Thanks
    Calvin
