You have to love a long macro lens. It's great to have that much room to play with the lighting. Did the Lincoln get a PL?
Nice setup, wish I had the room to do that. I also have a 2 year old that LOVES to "help" so my stuff only comes out for pictures, then gets put back away. Pictures look great!
Its i a pcgs holder. Im not sure if it would get PL at ngc or not. Its close. But lower reverse might not qualify.
That is a very nice coin, but has it been harshly cleaned? I'm new to this grading and identifying cleaning so I could be totally off on that. Even if it is cleaned it's a great Steel cent
Its die polishing lines. The die was harshly cleaned Thats what creates shiny fields. Considered acceptable and sought after by PL collectors.
Note how the lines are only in the fields of the coin and stop at the devices. Cleaning would normally show lines everywhere.
To add to that- Cleaning lines are incuse into the coin and die polish lines are raised. Easily seen using 10x magnification.
As a general statement in no way directed towards the OP coin... Most, yes, but not always. "Cleaning lines" or scratches often simply move metal as opposed to removing it, resulting in raised lines bordering the incuse. Think dragging one's finger through sand albeit on a much, much smaller scale.
That's a really nice setup you have. NOw I know were I need to be when I shoot mine. I was using window light white a white panel reflecting, but I switched to 2 strobes. I like the strobes better. With a 90mm Tamron Macro. 3981 with reflected window. The JFK is with 2 strobes. I'm also new to collecting and just look at them as works of ART. Now I'm trying to learn as much as I can, so bare with me.
See, this is why I love this forum. I learn something here every day. Yup, I see that now. Guess if I thought about it a little bit harder, lol. Thanks for the tip.
I have a raw coin with both raised die polishing lines and cleaning lines. I'll try and photograph it in a way that will help. Cant guarantee I'll be good enough to do it. But I need to get some pics of it anyway so I can SNAD it on ebay.
Who doth summon me? There is a lot of die polish on this coin, and the obverse appears to be semi-prooflike. However, I'm not seeing any traces of reflectivity on the reverse. That may just be the picture, of course, but it doesn't look PL to me. Sweet camera setup, though!
