....this nice little denarius of Hadrian.... HADRIAN (117-138). Denarius. Rome. Obv: IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG. Laureate head right. Rev: P M TR P COS III. Galley left. RIC 112.
Great portrait and wonderful galley! Hey, do these Roman galleys remind anyone else of a baby bassinet?
I came here to chew bubblegum and like coins. And I'm all out of bubblegum. Kick butt denarius Eduard!
Now I will never be able to look at this coin in the same way again..... Actually, it was pretty funny TIF! (and I always wonder just how you do those incredible things with pictures).
Oh, snap! I love that type, want some kind of ship-themed ancient, and had my eye on a Hadrian like this not long ago, but forum consensus was that it was overpriced, so I didn't buy it. Yours has perfect toning, too! If you ever tire of it...
Thank you, LordM. Yes, lovely old toning and from an 'Old-Time' collection with those quaint little notes. It made up a little for all the coins I wanted to buy, but where I was not successful. OH, I forgot to mention that the the Buffet Lunch offered by the auction house was excellent as well. So, nearly empty hands, but a very satisfying meal!
