So i have had this coin for quite some time and been told hide it away and don't show anyone but i figure people should know about this coin. From my knowledge it was a trial strike coin and there are probably not more than 2-3 of these coins out there in the wild. It would be nice if this was recognized. its not for sale as I am full aware these coins are not legal to sell.

    Thank you

I originally thought it is just missing the pink sticker that should be in the middle. I think the ribbon design is different than the circulation coins though. Could be something.

If you can't sell it, does that mean it's property of the Canadian Goverment?

    Why is that?

How did you come to possess it?

I checked my ribbon coin and it definitely is different.

Why is it not legal to sell?

Because its never meant for circulation and can be taken back by the mint. I think its similar in the US for pattern coins. The US mint can take a coin any time they feel.

    I don't understand your reply.

There are many US patterns available to collectors that are sold openly at public auctions. Some can go for big bucks. I don't think this would be the case if the US Mint could seize pattern strikes anytime they felt like it.

So, you think you may have a pattern 2006 Canadian Quarter?

I am pretty sure I do have a pattern coin. I am not clear on the legalities but dont think anyone would care about a stray coin getting out as thats how many rare varieties have started out.
