I've been quiet recently due to work keeping me really busy, plus I took a small vacation. Just wanted to let you all know I'm ok. Also, JA will soon be selling some coins for me. Just doing a little spring cleaning to further refocus and refine my collection as my tastes develop (mostly selling coins of emperors I have multiple coins for). That and there's also the matter of a super expensive piece of astronomical equipment I'm trying to buy to further my amateur astronomy goals. But it's not all a net loss. As some coins get ready to leave, other coins arrive into my collection...and my collection is still growing overall. Speaking of a new coin.... Lucius Verus AR Denarius Providentia reverse March 161 - February 169 A.D., RIC III 491, RSC II156, BMCRE IV 229, Hunter II 8, SRCV II 5354
Good to hear from you! And super sweet pick up! Dang work and other hobbies distracting from the coins. I was dealing with too much work also. And a computer that went bad...have to use the phone now and it's not as much fun.
Was getting worried and fearful of an early demise.........glad to see you're still among us...........
I was wondering where you had gone as I haven't see you posting much. Glad to see all's ok and super glad to see you posting. That coin is so nice. Maybe in a few years after I get done with my current obcession with the coins of the "Crisis of the 3rd Century and Secessionist Empires", I shall have to revisit medieval coinage. It wasn't an easy choice to part with any of my coins, but the money from the sale was used towards acquiring more ancient coins in the areas that interest me the most.
..haha.. howdy big O.. i can remember a time when we discussed that century in a pm. good to C ya again and supernice LVD
Nice coin @Sallent - saving up for astronomical gear is one of my hobbies, bought an 18" Obsession Dob back in 2016.
Here's the one hobby that's gotten any serious attention from me over the last few weeks, and only because I can do it at night in the weekend, while enjoying a good cigar and a beer. I upgraded from a super budget 4 inch Newtonian built with low grade materials to this 6 inch Smidt-Cassegrain from Celestron, with a computerized mount. Plus I upgraded a lot of my other astronomical accessories and eye pieces. All in all spent about $1,400 over the last three weeks upgrading telescope, eye pieces, filters, astronomy software, telescope accessories, etc, etc. But man, it was money well spent. Getting far better views from my light poluted skies than I ever thought possible. Half of the proceeds from JAs spring time sale of 13 of my coins will go towards a high end solar telescope, and the other half is being reinvested into my coin fund, so I can chase after rare usurpers and unusual coins from the era of the Crisis of the Third Century.
Killer Verus you got there @Sallent Noone should let work and other compulsory activities distract them from coin collecting : it's useless, tiring and unfair Q
Yeah, this is the type of BBQ grill that lets you watch the planets, binary stars, star clusters, nebulas and galaxies while simultaneously grilling sausages and burgers. I don't think you'll find much room in there though for the rotisserie chicken with all the sensitive optics and mirrors...
