    It appears to be DDD based on the pics you provided. IMO

    Did you check it against any resources? I am not seeing any doubling.

    Im looking at it up next to my Cherry picker's book ... it looks close to me.

    Close is not close enough. It either is or isn’t. Does the one you are looking at have a number associated with it?

    There's a significant spread on the CP coin that clearly isn't present on yours. Have you ever had the opportunity to view a doubled die with a fairly significant spread in-hand? Once you do and compare it to a regular issue, from then on it'll likely be quite obvious. Perhaps buy a 1972 DDO-3 off eBay; they should only be a few bucks for a circ unless prices have substantially risen over the last 6-7 years.

    That said, mintmarks on cents were hand punched up to and including 1989 and means positions can and do vary. To use your coin and the CP variety as an example: simply compare the location and you'll see that, without question, they're not one and the same.

    Doesn't look like a doubled die to me, the only doubling that I see in the O & D is just machine doubling.
