All are great, but the Fiji/turtle is awesome; & I never met a ship I didn't like & you got 2 of them!! Great finds all!!
I love that Belgian lion too, and that is a really good example . I have entered the bidding a few times for similar coins and got beat out by higher bids. I might as well post another coin that came yesterday, maybe a couple of them. Direct from England too.
Barbados - 1788 Penny (working on attributing the obverse/reverse dies; while I'm doing that, anyone got a coin with some coconuts on it? We'll make pina coladas...) Cape Verde - 1930 5 Centavos (just a gorgeous, gorgeous little coin)
Well, I thought I had a fair, moderate collection of world coins, but now I think I need to re-boot. I'm seeing some mighty nice pieces here!
It looks like there are some rather expensive die varieties, but the normal ones aren’t that expensive in the Krause - haven’t checked eBay sales though. Have you been trying to get a high grade one?
Very pleased with this one, just arrived from a local auction a couple of weeks ago: Germany - Bavaria, 3 Mark, 1914 minted in Munich, Ludwig II, KM#1005
No, not especially high grade. They seem to be more popular than the book would suggest. There's never too many for sale. Either they're way overpriced buy it now or an occasional auction that goes higher than I want to go.
Here's the last one I bid on. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1788-Barba...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Here's a Franz Joseph death pin I acquired for my collection: zinc alloy, 23mm with a 41mm steel pin. Franz Joseph was an extremely popular emperor, so his death medals are not uncommon, but most are in Latin or German. This particular one is interesting since it is Hungarian, which is apparent by the usage of the Hungarian version of his name, "Ferencz Jozsef", in the right field.
@micbraun Received these coins as a birthday gift from a friend in Germany.....I have been looking state side for these and he was kind enough to send them as a gift. Many Thanks Mike....they are very much so appreciated! In my package I also received a nice photo of him and his wife and children, with a nice birthday message. Mike again many thanks for your kindness and generosity. These will go very well with my other Danzig coin.
Picked up a few coins of late, another weird porcelain/gilded notgeld. This one is actually a fund raising token, 10 mark from 1921. Appears to have been a music thing for kids. And a 1772 2 kopecks
Part II re-shooting Secret Santa coins. Realized it was a PCGS shield afterwards so I added the TruViews too. ....To santa out there- last Christmas happened to be the hardest I've ever faced, and seeing that rainbow on the horizon on this coin gave me a much-needed sign of hope that day. Thank you!
