Hi all, I was going through some old tokens I had put away.. I wanted to share some miscellaneous US Transit tokens - Here is an old token from 1919 -
I like transit tokens. Lots of different designs. I have maybe 10-15 that I pulled out of the LCS junk bin for 25c a piece.
I wish I had taken photos.... Couple of years ago my brothers wife was cleaning old closets and came across a cigar box of coins and such. Being the family coin guy I was called. Among all the odd pieces, there were several dated tax tokens f on the early 20th century. They too were different and interesting. I could kick myself for not taking photos at the time.
As I clean up my miscellaneous stuff I'm filling a jar with NYC transit tokens. Thanks for sharing and making feel like I'm not the crazy hoarder that my girl friend and kids think I am.
Nice lot of transit tokens. I love them and wish I didn't sell of the one's I had. I might try and build a new collection.
Would it be bad manners to suggest I got a bunch of these? I've always been a big fan of transportation tokens and am keeping only a few of my collections.
I have 2 or 3 mixed in with my railroad related tokens. The local system around her SEPTA is doing away with tokens in a few days.
according to Atwood's this is Honolulu 240 E, these tokens were never placed in use. the last streetcar in Honolulu stopped running on July,1 1941
I'll pass that on. That explains why it's in such good shape. Honolulu Rapid Transit didn't use buses?
I've got some transit tokens, but I'll have to take photos with my tablet as my camera is being repaired. Mostly New York transit tokens.
my copy of Atwood's is from 1970 but the last listed token is the one you posted. If they ran busses they collected cash or went to a pass type program
I do like the NY Tokens. My best friend at work is originally from Puerto Rico but grew up most of his life in NY (I think the bronx). One of his family members was cleaning up a bank and gave me a nice older lockable money bag they found so I figured I would give him the only NY Transit Token I had. He loved it. Still sits on his desk.
