    Orfew Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus

This is my only coin of Marcus Aurelius. I waited quite a while for one I really liked.

    Here is an early-ish As (145AD), and a Dupe (170-171AD) and a Denar (176AD).

A couple of years ago I spent some time trying to capture the detail and artistic beauty of Marcus Aurelius' portraits on his coinage.

I don't know if I succeeded, but there is no doubt the man was ""portrait-genic".

    Here are some of mine:

Marcus Aurelius SEstertius - close up head - 1.jpg Marcus Aurelius Denariuds - close up head better? - 1.jpg Marcus Aurelius Denarius - close up head denarius mars - 1.jpg

oops, sorry, the last one is a denarius of Lucius Verus....

I only have one coin of Marcus Aurelius so far. Marcus.jpg

Not sure what happened to his face though. It looks like someone slashed it.

    Young portrait as Caesar...
I really need to work on my camera setup.. the light reflection really takes away
from the really nice deep green patina on this coin..

AVRELIVS CAESAR AVG PII. Reverse depicts sacrificial instruments, SC in exergue.
