so I found this 1971p Kennedy Half during my roll search. The only reason I pulled it was because it shows a silver edge. It's obvious not a real Kennedy, not even an error, look at the obverse size of Kennedy's bust, the obvious mint mark, the funky finish on the half, the size and serif of the date. It's not silver.Same size as real half,I placed it next to a 1972 just for comparasion. I know it is not an error or the actual elusive silver 1971, I wasn't sure where to post this error, chat, us coin etc. Question, why go to the effort and investment of faking a 1971 Kennedy with so many obvious differences? What is everyone thoughts on this oddity?
But furry the 1971 didn't have a Philadelphia mint mart and the spacing between the year is wrong, the serif is slightly smaller, the top of Kennedys head is to low almost exposing the entire E in Liberty.
Exactly, so why fake a 1971 Kennedy, and plate it to look like a silver half, when for 50 cent you could produce a more realistic silver 1971
yes there was but my understanding it was the Denver mint not Philly. I hate mysteries like this. I'm hoping someone can answer the Why would you invest in dies etc to fake a rather common half dollar, silver plate it in hopes of fooling some....
Alibaba.com is loaded with half dollars, stone mountain halves, etc etc etc. I'm sure there's probably a 1955 DD penny somewhere on that site too.
