I have a 1992 Penny that has a Die Crack from the Left Shoulder to the Y in Liberty. I noticed but could be wrong. The word LIBERTY might be double, the Date 1992 D could be double any comments?

    Cheryl,

The picture's show die deterioation. I would hold on to this coin just in case. The crack is due to fatigue in the metal. Nice picture's.

It's due to movement in the copper plating. not doubling and no value added

    Hello all,

This is my first day here. I just joined a little while ago (and am glad that I did) as I was looking for information on what I think may be some 1992 'error' coins and found this thread. I just got into searching for coins (especially errors now) and something about the pictures above jarred a memory of last nights searching and I have a penny that is dated 1993 D that shows the same line going the same direction, but my line goes further down into Lincoln's body. I compared the pictures above and from what I can discern, my line traverses the T in almost the same place, on the same side of the T but a little more to the left.

But what I really wanted to post was that in 1996, I had stored a whole lot of pennies and had just retrieved them in the last 3 weeks and have been sorting through them and found several 1992 D pennies in which the words on the back are very shallow/low or not there. I searched on Google and on this site but could not find any reference to these 'errors'. From the coins I checked, it always seems to affect the 'of' most, and then at the bottom 'ONE CENT'. Has anyone stumbled upon or heard of this before?

I apologize for the long winded post.

    Thank you

Welcome to the forum. You'll probbly get a better response by starting a new thread instead of posting on one from 2007, but I'll try to answer your questions anyway.
The line is a linear plating bubble underneath the copper plating of the coin. All cents minted after 1982 are made of 97.5% zinc with a 2.5% copper plating. Sometimes impurities in the coin can cause bubbles like this. They are not worth a premium.
In regard to the weakness in the word OF and that general area on the reverse. That is very common, and for some reason a lot of cents have a weaker motto in that area. If you look at more coins (especially from the 1990s) you will see this is common on the reverse.
Hope this helps. Keep up the hunt!
