My husband found the pictured coin in a jar of old coins that belonged to his dad. He thinks it might be a mule coin. I've never seen anything like it and was hoping more experienced collectors might be able to help. If it is a mule coin, what might it be worth? The tail of the coin is showing on both sides. Thanks.
It is bad if no one gives a serious answer, but you appear to have a dime and a nickel stuck together with some foreign substance. Soak them in water to separate them.
If water doesn't work, try acetone. And this is one of the only times I would say that nail polish remover would be acceptable.
Thank you for being kind. We're obviously new at this and the majority of the previous responses were pretty cold. We did try to separate the coins. We tried soaking them also, but can't separate them.
Hey Country Girl. I am a bonafied country boy. The folks here are all good intentioned. I promise. Every day they see folks posting a parking lot find that the person posting believes is going to make them wealthy. So, yes from where you are sitting I’m sure it feels unkind. But this group is a wealth of information... Interlaced with a little good natured ribbing.... You have two coins that somebody has put a dab of epoxy to. Stuff is unbelievably strong. You may not ever get them apart.... But don’t think too harshly of the crowd here. One day you will find something great to post and will appreciate the knowledge this crew has to share.
It is, you just have to come with a thick skin and be prepared to think and learn. Most folks here are very nice and helpful even if they also come equipped with snarky comments at times. Read, ask questions, learn. Also, stay away from Youtube.
I’m a little surprised that a novice would have done enough research to know the term mule before posting. That’s not a common term amongst collectors because it’s not all that often that true mules appear on the market. That’s further than most go.
@CntryGirl , welcome to CT. I hope you stick around this site and the hobby. It's quite educational. Believe it or not, this is one of the nicer coin sites I've visited. Some of the others are more brutal.
