I purchased these two coins last month, but just received one of them yesterday. I was beginning to fret over it. Other than upgrades, I need the CHORTIVM PRAETORIARVM to complete my set of MA Legionary denarius.

Fantastic coins Bing, especially that clear as a bell LEG IIII. Aren't you glad you waited now?

I always hate to do this but it is my opinion that the Leg IIII is a modern forgery. It is a die match to the two reported Legion IIIIs in the FORVM fake reports and besides that it has a very strange style and an appearance that thinks it may actually be a cast of another modern forgery. I don't think there's any chance that it's authentic, unfortunately.

I have to 100% agree with Spork. It's a tough coin, but that's not the one you want. I'm sorry Bing.

I believe you are correct. I had my doubts about this coin from the moment I received it. I did not want to prejudice the members here so I said nothing to see what others might think. It will be returned this coming week.

Don't be. I took a chance with it, but it is guaranteed. No harm other than I still have to find another authentic example. Besides, the Classicae is a fine example, leaving me only two more to acquire.

The Legio Classicae is definitely good and a perfect example for your awesome Legionary display your son made.

Sorry about the LEG IIII Bing, I know you've been after one for a long time. The Classicae is great though, better than mine.

Two steps forward, one step back. Too bad about the forgery, but I'm glad to see the end goal getting so close.

Nevertheless, I love coins with ships, & the galley on the LEG XVII Classicae is righteous!

Sorry about the LEG IIII, but any way look on the bright side of it, half the fun is searching and the thrill when you finally do find one. In the meantime I am always looking for you as well......and I look at a lot of coins.:watching:
