I had a 5 ouncer that I bought at a coin show years ago, but that was before I learned a few more lessons about buying Modern. Now as much as possible, I stay away from Modern and especially from the US Mint and their premiums.

Maybe if silver ever gets out of JPMORGAN 'manipulation (120,000 million ounces ).They know something about the silver market and I think we have no idea what's it is or Maybe ONE day we'll be lucky.

I have one (of the 5oz Silver Pucks) that I paid way more for. It was (at the time), one of twelve known "Samples".

Gotta admit I have two of the 5-ounce hockey pucks. Seems like someone was maintaining a post here about their issue price and current price.

I can't imagine anyone keeping a full set. 2 types x 56 subjects = 112 pucks. Where on earth would someone KEEP a hoard like that? A practice hockey rink?

I totally agree with you on this , you explained it very well . I just sold another America the Beautiful Five Oz. series for $150 ea. with no problem to another dealer at a coin show so this price is in line. Thanks for the great comments to tonybronx.

Another question to ask maybe is whether the $155 is better spent on old, US silver. A nice, original xf or au half-dime, dime, quarter or half. Trends are good for those coins. Bullion okay if you like a theme and you like looking at it but I'm not a fan of the newer sets or US and foreign bullion.

If you ARE going to go modern, U.S. has among the LOWEST premiums.

To correct the numerous references in this thread, this coin is not bullion.

This is the special finish version issued by the US Mint and sold on its website.

They do make a bullion version, but they are not sold directly to the public by the mint, have no mint mark, and feature a regular finish.

Speaking of is it worth it, our favorite TV Barker, Mike Mezak had a limited number of 1906S BU $20 Gold coins up for sale last night; his price was $1995 + S&H. I thought that might have been a little high, given his usual harangues, but, just now I found one on ebay for an asking price of $3750...

BU w/o a numeric grade USED to be equivalent to MS63. Today more like MS60 or 61.

And you know what we call MS60 and MS61, right? Litter mates... canine litter mates.

I just bought circulated silver coins (1964 and below half-dollars) for 1.2% over melt at a coin show today. I just like the older coins.

I made an offer on circulated Morgan dollars (I like them) which we could get done this morning, but he has my number.

Like the USS Enterprise medal that I posted earlier in this thread, I also have a silver and bronze pair that were struck the same year, 1960, by Medallic Art Co. They are the same size as the Enterprise medal at 63.5mm, and the silver medal also weighs 4.55 ozs. Both are graded MS67 by NGC, and if I recall, I purchased the pair for $100.

What's the deal on the Morgans?

  20. Doc J

    Doc J Mr. Brightside

The original deal was for 100 Morgans = $1600. Many were certainly PCGS P001 and P022 (very poor or a little better).

I am not a dealer so I passed on the 100 coin-lot. I did find the same lot broken into other lots. I found a 10 coin lot of the same of the better coins. I say around VG-8 and maybe below. I paid $220.
