Years ago my Dad and uncle collaborated to get solid rolls of Uncirculated State Quarters from bank tellers. They were able to get almost all of them for face value. Philadelphia minted rolls were acquired while on business trips back east. Apparently, it was a laborious process! They could not find some rolls and bought them from dealers. After Dad passed away 2 years ago, I inventoried his coin collection. What to do with 40 sets of P&D State Quarters? I suggested to Mom that we put together Dansco albums for all of their kids and grandkids (12 total). I typed up the “story” of Dad’s passion for coin collecting and how he obtained the quarters, and I implored everyone to keep their album as a family heirloom. I laminated the story and inserted it at the back of the album. I’m busy putting together the albums while visiting Mom in Houston, and will surprise everyone with their own piece of Dad’s collection this weekend!
Okay, I’m checking these Uncirculated coins for the various State Quarter errors. I found a Spitting Horse Delaware (1999-D). The die crack is not as long as the cracks on the other 4 or 5 I have found circulated in the wild. Maybe the Uncirculated is an earlier stage die crack? Here’s some pictures of it. The last picture is a circulated coin (with more pronounced die crack) I found last year. Mom says I can have the Unc coin for my Dansco.
