1948 wheat penny. What happened to this coin?

Found this coin while roll hunting. Does anyone have an idea as to what happened to this coin?

It's called a Lamination (delaminated) Mint Error.. Common occurrence on the Wheat Cents

 

Nice find! It is a good example of a lamination error.
From the wear on the coin it looks like it is also well circulated.

 

I agree lamination and wear and tear on a circulated coin As stated.

Curious as to the weight. Struck after the lamination at least partly because you can see the detail on the lower parts

coin weighs in at 3.11 gr.

 

why does it look like there's a number "2" on the right wheat stalk ?

 

That's what it normally weighs standard.

looks like a 2 - on the lower right.

 

i took another picture of the penny on the scale. Never saw the "2" in the wheat stock. Good catch.

 

I have good eyes when I'm not blind.
