The photos are rather rough. Perhaps you can take others being sure they're in focus? Also, be sure to post another of the opposite side.
Appears to be PMD (Post-Mint Damage) from the picture provided. Someone took a chunk out of the penny...
Oh so it wasn’t made like that? Just figured if someone did that it would have scratches or rough edges too it instead of smooth
Welcome to Cointalk As stated PMD we see coins like that all the time, you have to remember copper is very easily moved. Dave
I was thinking the same thing, the reverse doesn't show any damage. Also could be a missing lamination, but the shallows of the indent seem to smooth.
Thanks, but unfortunately I am still unable to see clearly enough to say what it is with any certainty. However, I would not just pass it off as damage at this point.
It's not the best set of photos, but I don't believe it's a lamination or struck thru; it's too deep. A better, closer photo of that area might be more helpful in a determination. Short of that, my view, based on what I can see, is that it's PMD.
@Jeffy654, your issue is, struck-through or damage? We really need crisp pictures of both sides. Your lighting in the second set of pictures is OK enough, your distance is just not optimal. Experiment with different distances, then crop the ones that are the best focused, and let's see what we can do with those.
