That's about what you have to pay. I think you did OK.

Not a bad price for your 1899 dollar. Nice find and a great addition to your collection.

It’s always nice to get your first Black Eagle, congratulations.

1899 $1 Silver Certificates were printed for over two decades. This means there are loads of these to choose from. Personally and respectfully, I might have been a little more patient and waited to find an example with more eye appeal. Very Fine is the grade where they seem to get more respectable. I paid a little more than the OP for this Black Eagle. The scan doesn’t capture how nice this note looks. It looks XF in hand.

So happy for you that you got the note you really wanted.
Here's also a note from 1899 that I really like:

Bought the note raw, $145 and sent it in for grading, $25....so the total would be $170. You really don’t have to get them graded. I did, so my heirs might have an easier time with stewardship.

There's my black eagle and one of my favorites. Two of about 15 collectible notes I have. I don't get them very often. I also collect the series of 1914.

The best part is how the Photobucket watermark blocks out part of the design, that's a real quality add on for displaying the note...

I hate Photobucket. You can't get off of them fast enough. Might I recommend Imgur.com for your photo hosting needs? Photobucket has zero good will left in the online community and should be shunned into oblivion with things like Angelfire and Compuserve...
