your coin is too far gone and not worth the effort, toss it in your reject pile and move on with your life...

Cleaning will not hurt this coin any more than it already is. But I have applied computer enhancement software to your photo and a computerized cleaning that has brought out the date. It's a 1948 cent. Sorry but it's only worth face value.

No way for copper!. Maybe Cu-Ni Indians, but I very doubt it and not after 64. Also using Ferric chloride ( Nic-a-date) will sometimes work on 5 cent Cu-Ni pieces, but it is then PMD and mostly worthless, unless very rare date. The cent is PMDead . The coin in post #20 should be in a different thread.
